Conley appointed to state commission for troubled youth
Hays County Commissioner Will Conley has been appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission. The commission works in partnership with local juvenile boards and probation departments to support and enhance juvenile probation services throughout the state.
“The State of Texas is stronger thanks to the input and wisdom of folks like you,” stated Governor Rick Perry.
Conley will serve as one of nine commissioners from throughout the state.
“I am honored to receive this appointment from the governor,” said Conley. “I look forward to working with the commission to help troubled youth become honest and contributing members of society.”
The commission supports local governments and other agencies that work with troubled youth by offering intervention and rehabilitative programs, services for families, and community programs.
“By stepping up juvenile intervention and rehabilitation efforts throughout the state, we can offer troubled youth a real opportunity to choose a better life and a better future,” explained Conley.
“The work of this commission helps to make our schools and communities safer, and most importantly, it offers vulnerable members of our society a fresh start,” he said.
Youth and public safety initiatives have been a hallmark of Conley’s tenure on the Hays County Commissioner’s Court. In the past two years, he worked to fund new school resource officers at local schools, support community services for youth and families, and increase salaries for sheriff’s deputies.
This is the fifth state or regional board Conley has been appointed to. He chairs the Capitol Area Regional Transportation Planning Organization and serves on the executive committee of the Capitol Area Council of Governments. Conley is also a board member of the Austin-San Antonio Intermunicipal Commuter Rail District and the Austin Community College Center for Public Policy and Political Studies.
Conley’s first meeting as a member of the commission will take place on Friday, November 20.
Will Conley was elected Hays County Commissioner in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. He can be contacted at: http://www.commissionerconley.com.
